I am asking all of my readers to make a sincere duah for the brothers from the Holy Land Foundation who were convicted yesterday in a federal court in Dallas, Texas. Let it be known that this prosecution by the federal government, one of the last evil acts of the Bush Administration, was not just an attack on the HLF, but an attack on the entire Muslim community of America. The Justice Department under Bush has been highly politicized and it does not help matters that rank and file FBI agents largely come from the white Christian- right. I encourage all Muslims in America and people of good will to send the Feds a message that we will not be intimidated, by writing a check today or donating online to an Islamic charity, and sending a big F you to the Justice Department.
LGF II
I did not know until yesterday that a group of Muslim haters and digital brownshirts existed that are so full of hate that they’re even more extreme than the hate-mongers at Little Green Footballs and have founded their own website. They accused me on their site yesterday of launching a stealth jihad and being part of some Islamist-Leftist Alliance because I support Sharia family law for Muslims in America. If that makes me a stealth jihadist than I am a stealth jihadist; I believe that every Muslim marriage, divorce, custody battle, will dispute, and business dispute between Muslims in America should be handled by regional Sharia judges who should be appointed by a national Sharia council in America; this in no way conflicts with American law and is preferable for Muslims who seek to follow Quran and Sunnah.

I get a lotta flak from the Bible Thumpers as well on my site. But I’m relatively well equipped intellectually to handle them.

So, the LGF alliance breaks down once more. A few years ago it was Discarded Lies, nee LGF Watch Watch, that had its links broken by LGF (I think it was over the Schiavo affair, in which LGF took the secularist side and DL/LGFWW supported keeping Terri Schiavo alive), and now this bunch of losers. I suspect LGF might sue them for copyright infringement pretty soon, as LGF is, or at least was, the name of Johnson’s web design company and, before that, his Atari ST software company.

I agree with you Umar there needs to national Sharia council. Except that many of Ulama are from foreign countries and in order to judge correctly an Faqih must must knowledge (experience of living in the coutry and understanding how islamic principles can differ acording to cultural conditions) of the country they live in. Too many faqih are too stuck trying to make US Islam “just back home” even though back home has many problems these scholars haven’t and couldn’t solve.
It’s good many US muslims are traveling overseas to attain islamic knowledge it’s bad the majority to go to Saudiyya to get it. It will awhile before such a national council can really be effective or accepted in the US.
Indeed brothers like Imam Abu Layth Luqman Ahmad from Sacramento,CA and Imam Zaid Shakir as well Dr. Muzammil Siddiqui should be included if such a council does take fruition.

you noted the split a few years ago, Yusuf; perhaps more interesting is the split with Robert Spencer over Vlaams Belang (LGF believes they’re a fascist organization, as they appear to be, Spencer believes they’re not and that the “anti-Islamist” community needs to support each other)…

Disagree with you, Umar. We cannot allow a parallel judicial structure in America. Institutionalized Shari’ah has no place in America. Period.

You dont know what your talking about. What do you think an American Indian tribal council is for? They are a parallel legal and penal system that regulates the Indian Nations who are autonomous in the United States.
Muslims, under the constitution, also have the right to set up Shariah courts and we have Shariah courts set up in some areas.
I agree with Umar on the issue of shariah courts but am not sure that i agree with a national body appointing local courts. i think there should be a nationally recognized Shariah court (a supreme court if you will), but that local communities should set up their own courts who will recognize and turn to the national court for deferment on decisions.
If America is serious about solving issues regarding Muslims (extremism etc), then let the Muslims deal with their issues.
